Foundation: 1967

Mission: To conduct fundamental research and technological development in biotechnology, to participate in setting up policies, strategies, programming and planning of biotechnology development, to train high quality human resources in biotechnology for the national development. The Institute of Biotechnology (IBT) belongs to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and has the mission of research and development, technology transfer and higher education in life sciences and biotechnology. The activities of IBT are focusing on agricultural, biomedical and environmental biotechnologies. Outcomes are available in the form of new techniques and products for crop and livestock improvement and protection; diagnostic kits and vaccines; natural drugs for health care; procedures for treatment of organic and inorganic wastes and pollutants as well as various biotechnological services.
