Foundation: 1954

Mission: In accordance with its statutes, the mission of the University is to contribute to the spiritual and material progress of society through the resources of scientific and humanistic knowledge, technological progress and artistic creation, in accordance with the values of its own historical tradition and the need for sustainable development of the region and the country. In fulfilling this mission, the University declares its unrestricted adherence to the cultural, intellectual and moral values of society and, consequently, recognizes and assures to each and every one of its members the right to personal development and the free expression of their ideas within the mutual respect, the search for excellence and the attachment to truth required by the nature of the institution. In accordance with its foundational origin, the University will give special preference to the knowledge of the natural resources of the south-south zone, seeking the conservation of its ecosystems. Likewise, it will especially promote studies aimed at solving the problems of human welfare in the south-south zone, primarily those related to education, health and community life, also providing preferential support for the preservation of its historical heritage and cultural development.
