Foundation: 1981

Mission: Universidad de La Serena is a regional university of the State of Chile, committed to the Coquimbo Region, which focuses on the areas of science, technology, humanities and social sciences. It mainly develops training programs for professionals and postgraduates, giving priority to its quality both in the academic and in the value, and promoting in its students a critical vision and responsibility towards their environment. It contributes to the generation of knowledge through focused research, preferably associated with regional themes, and through artistic creation. In the missionary aspect of the link with the environment, the University of La Serena contributes, from the diversity of its work, to the improvement of the processes of public and private institutions, to the preservation and dissemination of culture and social welfare.

Vision: Universidad de La Serena is a regional university of the State of Chile that, consolidated in its academic work, aspires to play a leading role in the development of the Coquimbo Region and the country, and to be recognized in the higher education system for the quality of its activities in the field of teaching, research and links with the environment.
