Mission: The University of Valparaiso is a state institution, public and autonomous, founded on a long tradition and its mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge, cultivating the arts, sciences, humanities and technologies, through the development of undergraduate and graduate teaching and research, as well as providing skills and values to train graduates, professionals and researchers in a framework of quality and commitment to regional and national development, promoting its sustainable character.
Vision: The University of Valparaiso, as a state university, aspires to be an institution of excellence in the training of people, in innovation and knowledge generation and management, pluralistic, inclusive of all levels, linked to the reality of their environment, which contributes from the strengthening of its location in the Region of Valparaiso to regional and national development, sustainable and socially responsible, reference in higher education nationally and internationally.
The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
