Mission: La Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación es una institución estatal y pública, cuya misión consiste en servir a los propósitos de la educación, en todas sus manifestaciones, atendiendo, especialmente, la formación profesional docente - inicial y continua - para todos los niveles, sectores y modalidades del sistema educacional chileno. Incluye, además, la relación entre educación y salud; sin perjuicio de otras opciones que le demande la sociedad. Asimismo, la UMCE declara su compromiso de permanente búsqueda de la calidad para el cumplimiento de su tarea universitaria, la que se materializa en el ejercicio de una docencia pertinente, inclusiva, innovadora y actualizada, que se nutre con la investigación científica que le es propia, desde la constante y dinámica interacción con el medio social, cultural y natural.
Vision: La UMCE aspira a distinguirse como referente significativo de la formación de profesionales de la educación y de áreas afines a su misión en el país, de tal modo que su contribución académica se extienda a una participación influyente en la formulación de políticas públicas en educación. Para ello, la UMCE interpretará permanentemente las necesidades educativas del país, a través de una investigación de tal calidad que impacte favorablemente en su quehacer académico, y, a la vez, en las condiciones de funcionamiento integral del sistema educativo nacional.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
