Mission: THE INSTITUTO TECNOLÓGICO METROPOLITANO - ITM, in Medellín, is a public university institution that offers higher education services for the integral formation of human talent with excellence in research, innovation, development, teaching, extension and administration, which seeks to prepare people for life and work with national and international projection based on human dignity and solidarity, with social and environmental awareness.
Vision: By the year 2021 the INSTITUTO TECNOLÓGICO METROPOLITANO - ITM, in Medellín, will be a Higher Education Institution with a technological vocation, recognized nationally and internationally for academic excellence focused on the quality and relevance of its programs and its teaching, research, extension and administrative functions. The ITM will have a flexible and efficient organizational model based on permanent leadership and learning, which will allow it to fulfill its educational mission with responsibility and social equity.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
