Mission: The University of Tolima is a public institution of higher education that promotes the development of human capabilities for continuous integral education, supported by ethical values of tolerance, respect and coexistence through the constant search for knowledge, production and appropriation and dissemination of knowledge in the various fields of science, art and culture, from an inter- and trans-disciplinary perspective, as a contribution to the welfare of society, the environment and sustainable development of the region, the nation and the world.
Vision: In the year 2023, the Universidad del Tolima will consolidate its social recognition and will be institutionally accredited of high quality; it will be recognized as one of the most important state universities in Colombia for its academic excellence, the fulfillment of its ethical commitment to society, the defense of life and the environment, the dynamization of cultural processes and the model of institutional management, transparency, efficiency and administrative effectiveness.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
