Mission: "To contribute to the integral development of the country, through the training of human resources, research and extension; maintaining scientific, technological and technical leadership, academic excellence and strict adherence to ethical, humanistic and environmental standards, from a state university perspective of quality and competitiveness at the national and international level. It is important to note that this mission is in harmony with Articles 1 and 3 of the Organic Law, which is why "this guideline is based on the definition without going beyond it, but rather clarifies, enriches and updates it".
Vision: "The Technological Institute of Costa Rica will continue to contribute through the solid formation of human talent, the development of research, extension, social action and relevant scientific-technological innovation, entrepreneurship and close links with the different social actors to the building of a more supportive and inclusive society; committed to the pursuit of social justice, respect for human rights and the environment".

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
