Foundation: 1993

Mission: Météo-France is the national meteorological and climatological service. Its primary mission is to ensure the meteorological safety of people and property. It is notably reflected in the elaboration of a meteorological vigilance map indicating dangerous phenomena, their consequences and the precautions to be taken to protect oneself. The Meteorological Vigilance system is supplemented in mainland France by marine bulletins and avalanche risk assessment bulletins, and overseas by a hurricane watch and warning system. Météo-France's basic missions include : - development and maintenance of an observation network - the collection and processing of climatological data - weather forecasting - development of climate projections - research in the fields of meteorology and climate.
