Mission: The CRO is a Scientific Institute for Hospitalization and Care for the ONCOLOGY topic and is characterized as a translational health research center and hospital of high specialization and national importance in the oncology sector. It therefore pursues, according to standards of excellence, research goals in the biomedical field and in the organization of health services, innovation in care models and knowledge transfer, together with high-level health care services. The standards also assign IRCCS CRO specific high-level training tasks.

Vision: The CRO is committed to: planning and conducting innovative activities with a view to translational research; experiment and verify innovative forms of management and organization in the oncological field, also taking into account demographic, general and individual population variations, enhancing the multi-professional and multidisciplinary approach; promote the personalization of the oncological patient's care by considering genetic characteristics and variables and/or coexistence of multiple pathologies, also in order to adapt and promote the individualization of use and to promote the specific offer of drugs, therapies and technologies; increasing research through the enhancement of activities aimed at achieving targeted resources; improve the knowledge of the aetiology of oncological diseases and their associated conditions, the identification of new models and methods of prevention, diagnosis, assistance and therapy, also with a view to continuity with territorial services and/or hospital networks; to provide health services to people with oncological interest or risk related to it; implementing interdisciplinary assistance and care for cancer patients, also providing for subsequent periodic monitoring and ensuring adequate physical and psychological rehabilitation support and appropriate support for family members; to be a reference point for public or private bodies and institutions for opinions and in-depth studies on cancer related to occupational or environmental exposure or other risk factors; provide consultancy, also in the form of second opinion, direct or remote, in the oncological field, as already implemented for the Alliance of Italian Hospitals in the World (TCAS); to act as a regional reference for the Friuli Venezia Giulia Cancer Registry and to promote interactions with the networks of Italian and international Cancer Registries; to provide for the collection, processing and dissemination of information concerning epidemiological data and the causative factors of cancer, also by participating in health education programs for the purpose of cancer prevention; to carry out activities of transfer of knowledge acquired through welfare and research activities, theoretical-practical teaching, training and education, directly and in collaboration with universities and other national and international institutions; to participate, within its own institutional aims, in the realization of programs indicated by the National and Regional Health Plans, by the programs of the European Commission and the International Agencies and to support other initiatives promoted by the Region in the field of international cooperation; contribute to the functioning of the Alliance Against Cancer; establish further appropriate forms of collaboration in the Oncology sector with Italian and foreign bodies, institutions and research laboratories, in order to create and develop synergies in the field of scientific research, training and assistance, and to contribute to the improvement of the state of health also in geographical areas and populations identified by specific agreements; to promote collaborations with voluntary associations and associations representing and protecting users operating in the fields of oncological interest, in order to create effective communication tools, to increase synergies for growth and improvement, also aimed at the quality of reception, knowledge and satisfaction of non-assistant needs, detection of perceived quality; collaborate with national and regional institutions and institutions for training and updating initiatives in the oncology field for health care personnel; to set up integrated evaluation tools on the impact of the actions implemented with respect to public and private subjects, involved and addressed by them, also through "social balance sheet" methodologies; to carry out, pursuant to art. 8, paragraph 7, Legislative Decree 288/2003, high level training activities within the discipline and the reference activity that is oncology.
