Foundation: 1919

Mission: Following an intensive, one-and-a-half year discussion process, Universität Hamburg agreed upon a mission statement in summer semester 1998. This sets forth the University's goals and describes the institution's understanding of itself as a "gateway to the world of knowledge." Project groups dedicated to each of the six goals set forth in the mission statement are responsible for concrete development in their respective areas: Strengthening responsibility, Internationalization, Improving quality, Interdisciplinary cooperation, Creating regional contacts, Improving access to education and academia.
