Mission: Szent István University strives to become a leading and significant international institution of higher education and knowledge in the Carpathian Basin, uniquely unifying the spectrum of agriculture and other connected disciplines at a national level. Our mission, in close cooperation with our partners, is to serve Hungary’s economic and social progress, as well as contribute to the renewal and development of the countryside and the field of agriculture with outstanding education, research and development, counselling, and innovation activities. We participate in activities in all areas of agricultural sciences and in disciplines of natural, mechanical and social sciences necessary for the development of agriculture, food, and rural economics. To achieve these goals, the following programmes are specifically featured in the training and research portfolio: rural development, agricultural science, horticulture, viticulture, oenology, food science, food safety, agricultural economics, water management, agri-food mechanical engineering, renewable energy management, environment and landscape management, landscape architecture, management of agricultural and manmade rural environment, architecture, and civil engineering. Our graduates’ extensive and competitive professional knowledge, the recognition and acknowledgement of our scientific findings on both the national and international level, and the implementation of our research and development practices in the everyday operation of enterprises all indicate our future success. We aim to become Hungary’s most outstanding agricultural university and a determining factor of rural and agricultural development as our student numbers increase, our scientific results grow, innovation potential expands, international acknowledgement increases, and our range of partners widens. The primary task of the University is to provide multilevel, multilingual, student-centred education that is in harmony with scientific progress and prevailing societal requirements. Szent István University offers its students scientific advancement and professional opportunities on their career path, while offering highly elaborated, new generation training programmes to its excellent students most committed to sciences. SZIU seeks to broaden and popularise agricultural career options as its primary mission. The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
