Mission: "The aims of the Center's research activity are aimed at clarifying processes and studying organisms of biomedical interest, with special emphasis on molecular parasitology, immunology and the development of new therapeutic and diagnostic strategies for diseases of global health importance. The development of new compounds and tools for the treatment of diseases, the design of new diagnostic procedures, the understanding of the molecular bases of pathological processes such as infectious, immune and neurodegenerative diseases or cancer are some of the challenges that are addressed in the Institute. All the pathologies studied represent important medical problems. Among others, cite as examples studies on autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease or celiac disease; degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis; infectious diseases such as tropical diseases, AIDS or hepatitis C. The IPBLN offers great potential in the field of biomedical research and it wishes to interact in a more significant way with other public or private research Centers, interested in Biomedical and Biotechnological research, for this the location of the Institute in the PTS provides an appropriate environment. The Institute also fulfills an important educational function by collaborating in the teaching of Specialization Courses, Doctoral Programs and hosting numerous third-cycle students who carry out their Doctoral Thesis here. It also participates in activities to disseminate scientific culture. It is worth highlighting the environment of collaboration with other countries, which is reflected in the participation of researchers from the center in international networks and projects, with collaboration with European and Latin American countries being especially significant. The Institute also offers a series of services to the scientific community, among which it is worth highlighting the services of sequencing and analysis of DNA fragments, synthesis of oligonucleotides, proteomics service, or the Library of the Center, among others.
