Mission: The University of Salamanca is a public institution of higher education, and continuation of a humanistic and scientific tradition with a vocation to inspired by the principles of democracy, equality, justice and freedom, which was born in 1218 and continues to contribute to the progress of society today. Our mission emanates from the aims set out in our Statutes, approved by the Cloister: The expansion, study and integration of knowledge through research in all branches of knowledge, with a view to its organization in academic disciplines. The critical transmission of knowledge through teaching activity; the contribution to the training and further training of professionals promotion and dissemination of the Spanish language; the promotion and expansion of culture and knowledge through Lifelong learning and university extension. The transfer of scientific, technical and cultural knowledge so that, in collaboration with other social agents, this can take the form of innovation for sustainable development and improvement of the quality of life of Spain, from Castile and Leon and from all the villages. The increase in university cooperation at the national and international, especially with universities and Latin America. The promotion of systems that encourage the mobility of students, teachers and researchers, especially the development of the European Higher Education Area and the creation and development of the Ibero-American Knowledge Space.
