Mission: The University of Vigo is a public, independent institution, open to the environment and with an international vocation, committed to equality, economic progress and the social welfare of Galicia. Through quality teaching and research, we contribute to the creation and transfer of knowledge, to the comprehensive training of people, to scientific and technological development, to innovation and to the intellectual growth of the multicultural and multilingual society in which we live.
Vision: We aspire to be an innovative reference within the university system in teaching, basic and applied research, the management and transfer of science and knowledge, the internationalization of our activities, especially in Latin America and Portuguese-speaking countries, and the harmonious integration with the environment, being, in addition, an instrument socially vertebral and catalyst of intellectual debate and new ideas. We are a public university, Galician and of quality, that wants to consolidate itself as an egalitarian, plural and participative institution, committed with the institutional cooperation, with the solidarity and with the preservation of the natural environment, recognized and valued by the integral formation of its students, so much in the professional as personal field, for the quality of its offered services, for the efficiency, efficacy and transparency of its management and for its academic prestige.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world.
