Mission: The AU is a public and socially responsible institution. Its MISSION, as the legislation (ORGANIC LAW 6/2001 and subsequent modifications) confers it supposes: The integral formation of its students. Not only in knowledge and disciplines, but also as an encouragement of a critical, social, responsible, healthy and sensitive sense of sustainability, in order to contribute effectively to the welfare of the society where it is inserted. To this, it is necessary to add the guarantee of personal dignity, the free development of people without any type of discrimination and finally, the right to effective equality between women and men. Research as a basic principle should increase the improvement of knowledge. On the one hand, by its transference through teaching. On the other hand, by the direct contribution of the university to society through its inescapable commitment to cultural, scientific and technological development. In this way, thanks to the collaboration with other social agents, this research can be materialized in innovation for sustainable development and improvement of the quality of life.

Vision: If we set out a VISION for the future of the AU in 2019, we must chart a course that aims at a quality public university. To this end, we have asked ourselves the following question: How do we want our university to be today (2013) in 2019? It is a prestigious and nationally and internationally recognized institution, identified as a reference in Alicante and its surroundings. A Valencian and multilingual institution, able to contribute to a linguistically diverse and fair society. The students develop a participative attitude, they are motivated for self-learning and self-improvement. Consequently, the graduates have a comprehensive training, are prepared to occupy positions appropriate to their skills and are able to meet the needs of business development, economic and cultural growth of society. There is an offer of quality degrees (Degree, Master's and Doctorate) some of them offered to be carried out on-line. Competitive at all levels and oriented towards comprehensive and ongoing training (supported by open knowledge and massive and global online platforms), which facilitates labour insertion, flexibility and mobility. Research is aligned with the European research policy 2020, is recognized nationally and internationally, is well structured, transfers knowledge and is also a driver of sustainable development of its economic and social environment. The dynamics of the institution provide a motivating system of human development and there is a committed, competent and effective staff, well dimensioned, organized and fully recognized. The University is well structured organically, this allows an efficient governance in the fulfillment of its mission, based on the strategic objectives established by the university community, the effective use of resources and adequate quality management of services. The relationship with social agents is fluid and the AU projects itself proactively on its social environment. The cultural and sports training of its members is a basic element in the projection of its environment and the realization of its own values. Adequate, sustainable and efficiently managed spaces, infrastructures and services are available for the entire university community, especially those necessary for teaching, research and transfer. There is a large number of exchanges between students, PAS and PDIs with prestigious universities and research centres not only at a European level, but also globally. There is a notable presence of foreign students in all studies. National and international networks of collaboration have been established and consolidated in teaching, research and cooperation, allowing the creation and promotion of shared projects in the different fields. It is a socially responsible institution that respects ethical principles and is committed to sustainable development and the promotion of civic values. It has sufficient funding to carry out its functions, by attracting public resources especially from the EU and private resources that are managed efficiently, equitably and transparently. The full implementation of digital services allows it to rationalise procedures and optimise resources. The internal communication is supported by the technologies of the moment and is a vertebral instrument of the university community. Research and teaching objectives have been set, with incentives, which place the UA among the top 10 Spanish universities. It is a healthy university with an inclusive working environment. Equal opportunities between women and men are a reality. It has an observatory of employability with the aim of seeing what the demands are, where the labour market is heading and what the technological challenges of the future will be, in order to direct teaching and research in that direction. The group of students and teachers has been consolidated. AU graduates maintain their links with the institution and are its best representatives.

Ranks by Subject areas/categories

We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world. If you need scientific indicators on these areas visit Scopus and/or SciVal.
