Mission: The mission of the University of Valencia explains the raison d'être of the institution, in accordance with the legal and statutory framework. The process of strategic reflection carried out to define the University of Valencia's Strategic Plan 2008-2011 led to the definition of the University's mission. We understand that this statement is still fully alive, although its achievement will require different objectives and lines of action that focus on new challenges and circumstances. "The mission of the University of Valencia is to train competent professionals in the European field and to promote research of international prestige and impact that contributes to the development of our society. Training and research promote the tasks that it also carries out in the field of disseminating science and culture and in reaffirming the democratic values of society in general, and of Valencia in particular. »

The volume and impact of the research results generated by its teams The capacity to attract specialized research resources: attracting and developing talent and competing in international competitive calls. The capacity to offer a wide variety of transfer and scientific-technical services, through visible, accessible and easily understood processes by current and potential users. The capacity to establish long term relationships with the users of transfer services, and to offer them integral solutions that go beyond one-off transactions. The breadth, quality and richness of its cultural offerings and participation in university life, which contributes to providing a 'UV experience' that meets the needs of users. To be a cultural reference in the Valencian society, with special attention to its culture and language. Based on this vision, it is possible to identify the objectives of the institution in each of the four areas of activity and the strategic objectives that allow the achievement of the stated goals, which is why the Strategic Plan of the University of Valencia for the period 2012-2015 is configured.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world. If you need scientific indicators on these areas visit Scopus and/or SciVal.
