Vision: Kobe University – toward an outstanding research university excelling in advanced and integrated research in the humanities and sciences Kobe University is an academic institution that has continued to encourage forward-looking and independent thinking in working toward our ideal of creating ‘harmony between theory and reality’. Building on these traditions, we are now endeavoring to further utilize our ability for collaboration and integration. We pledge to become an outstanding research university that meets the highest international standards for teaching and research and can serve as a center for value creation that will help to solve the issues facing our society both at present and in the future. Taking advantage of our traditional strength in both the social and natural sciences, and encouraging innovative research that defies the boundaries between the humanities and the sciences, we will work in collaboration with other universities and research institutes to develop and expand new areas of academic study. In addition, we will strengthen ties between undergraduate and graduate programs to ensure that students can enrich their creativity and deepen their understanding, knowing they are at the forefront of advanced research. Through multi-faceted academic exchanges with major overseas universities in joint research and collaborative education, Kobe University will dramatically enhance its function as a ‘hub campus’ that attracts talented personnel from around the world and equips students with an international perspective. Through these collaborations in education and research, Kobe University will not only contribute to the development and practical implementation of state-of-the-art technologies that will benefit humankind, but also produce graduates who will play a leading role in finding solutions to global issues. In order to achieve these ambitious objectives for collaboration and integration in teaching and research, Kobe University will carry out various institutional reforms to facilitate greater cooperation between individuals and the university as a whole, allowing us to combine the talents of the entire Kobe University community and work together to explore new academic frontiers.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world. If you need scientific indicators on these areas visit Scopus and/or SciVal.
