Mission: Ghent University and its association partners (AUGent) strive to be an entrepreneurial knowledge institution by: Acting proactively as the engine of an innovative knowledge region; Acting as a service provider and a source of inspiration for innovation for its partners in order to: play a lead role in the development and expansion of the innovative knowledge region with impact on the regional/national and international (European) level; to be recognized as an attractive research-intensive and entrepreneurial knowledge institution with an appeal that extends across Europe; to contribute to the social and economic value creation through transfer of innovative knowledge and technology developed at the Ghent University Association; and to generate revenues that allow further expansion of these activities, further professionalization and support.
Vision: Ghent University first identified its priorities regarding Internationalisation in an Integrated Policy Plan for Internationalisation (IPPI) for the period 2014-2018. The IPPI 2019-2023 builds on this 1st policy plan and aims for Ghent University to take a leading role in Europe as a university that excels internationally in education and research, where all members of the Ghent University community, regardless of their background, feel at home and where students are optimally prepared for the challenges of today's globalized society and labour market, across national borders.
The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world.
