Mission: UCLouvain wants to enable all those who wish to do so - young people leaving secondary education or adults engaged in working life - to train and acquire the skills useful for their development and professional activities. In order to guarantee the quality of training, pedagogical innovation is closely linked to the development and updating of programmes.
Research University, UCLouvain takes its place in an international community based on the recognition of the excellence of our contributions to the development and transmission of knowledge. UCLouvain fosters an environment conducive to scientific creativity, valorisation activities and a balance between the functions of researcher and teacher.
Through its regional anchorage in seven locations in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and its two university hospitals, through the impact of its research and teaching, through the alumni network that it dynamises, the creation of spin-offs, the development of science parks and incubators or development cooperation, UCLouvain contributes to the development of a society that ensures the well-being of all citizens.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
