Foundation: 1968
Mission: The Burlo Garofolo, as a highly specialized hospital of national importance and in accordance with the guidelines of the Regional Social and Health Plan, guarantees high-complexity and specialty assistance for the maternal and childcare area in regional, national and international network with paediatrics structures and Obstetrics-Gynecology regional and with the Italian Paediatric Hospitals. It also guarantees basic maternal and child care for the Trieste area, in Collaboration with the Integrated University Health Agency of Trieste. The Burlo, as IRCCS, in accordance with the Directives of the Ministry of Health and in network with other IRCCS, it carries out research activities institutionally translational and management clinic in the maternal and child care environment, representing the reference for the Region in the definition of health policies in this scope. The Burlo, as a reference point for the University Clinical Department of Medical, Surgical and Health Sciences of the University of Trieste for the mother-child environment, ensures the integration of the activities of assistance, didactics and research, contributing to the achievement of the objectives ...of the university.
Vision: The strategic vision of the Burlo is oriented to: Ensuring the same high level of health for all children, adolescents... and the women of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, either directly or indirectly, by playing the role of regional hub for the maternal and child area, in a hub-spoke system not only in hospitals, but also in hospital-territory, while coordinating research and innovation, as well as teaching and training for the mother-child area. Developing its role in the national welfare and scientific network and international in order to compare and transfer experiences, as well as to represent a pole of attraction for patients and professionals, while promoting the growth and development of other health realities, especially in disadvantaged areas of the world.
