Mission: In the best tradition of CNR, IMEM develops interdisciplinary research approaches in materials science, complementing refined methods of growth, synthesis and study of materials with theoretical modelling and prototyping of devices. The latter conceived with the aim of exploring and demonstrating (multi-)functional properties, implementing and developing applications and opening innovative technological perspectives. The main strategic lines are focused on materials, processes and devices for energy, sensors, bioelectronics and nanomedicine. This approach is fully consistent with the affiliation to the Department of Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transport (DIITET), the relevant participation to the Department of Physical Sciences and Technologies of Matter (DSFTM) and the important interactions and synergies with the Department of Chemical Sciences and Materials Technologies (DSCTM). The ambition is to keep together, in a strong and fertile relationship, the research motivated by curiosity, the applied one, the development of technologies and relations with industries and enterprises. The main activities are aimed at the growth/synthesis, study and control of multifunctional properties of new generation materials, including: materials, magnetic, semiconductor and superconductor systems and devices; nanostructures and processes of functionalization and multi-functionalisation for energy, sensors, bioelectronics and nanomedicine; molecular systems and hybrid organic/inorganic materials engineered at different length scales; nanostructures on metal surfaces; quantum point semiconductor nanostructures (QDot). Important is the industrial research activity that is carried out in cooperation with companies and technology transfer from the regional scale in which he is co-founder of Tecnopolo AMBIMAT and MISTER consortium. Particular attention is given to the training of new research staff, also thanks to the important contribution given to several national and international PhD schools and courses, starting from the PhD in Materials Science and Technology of the University of Parma, of which IMEM is co-founder under an official agreement.
Vision: Information not localized
The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world. If you need scientific indicators on these areas visit Scopus and/or SciVal.
Area | World | Western Europe | EU-27 | OECD | Italy |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Chemistry | 2794th | 941st | 886th | 1776th | 116th |
Physics and Astronomy | 2022nd | 730th | 667th | 1332nd | 101st |
These are the journals used by the institution's researchers to publish their work in the last year. The size of each circle represents the value of the SJR of the publication, and its spatial position represents its subject matter.
This visualizatión allows you to identify the knowledge areas where the institution has published, recognize the prestige of the scientific journals in which the institution knowledge has been published, and identify predominant scientific communities.
