Mission: La Universidad de Piura brinda una educación de calidad, impulsa la investigación científica y forma profesionales capaces de transformar la sociedad. A lo largo de los años, ha consolidado un reconocido prestigio por su rigurosidad académica, nivel de exigencia, seriedad y calidad institucional. La Universidad de Piura ha sido creada con el objeto de contribuir, de acuerdo con la genuina misión de la universidad, a la elaboración de una síntesis de la cultura, que armonice la dispersión especializada del saber con la unidad de la verdad humana, iluminada y unificada por la fe cristiana. La orientación cristiana de la Universidad de Piura se confía a la Prelatura del Opus Dei, por acuerdo entre la Asociación promotora de la Universidad y la Prelatura. Forma parte de su misión: -Favorecer la formación integral de sus alumnos. -Promover y divulgar la investigación científica en todos los campos del saber humano; haciendo de la búsqueda de la verdad, la razón de ser de la actividad intelectual. -Proporcionar una formación de calidad que armonice la especialización con la visión de conjunto y el buen conocimiento de la realidad circundante. -Fomentar la sensibilidad social para mantener una permanente atención a los problemas concretos del hombre y de la sociedad, orientando la investigación y el estudio a la solución de dichos problemas.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.

For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world.
