Foundation: 1953

Mission: CHLN, as a public, general, central and highly differentiated hospital establishment in technology and knowledge, provides health care to the citizen within its capacity and within its responsibility. The result of a historical, logical and natural symbiosis with the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, with which it shares facilities, human resources and knowledge, teaching and pre- and post-graduate training constitute another fundamental axis of the mission, without prejudice to partnerships with other national and international academic institutions. In addition to the direct provision of health care and training, the mission of the CHLN also includes the aspects of innovation, scientific development and research, as a logical corollary and natural use of synergies resulting from the axes of provision and training.

Vision: CHLN's vision focuses on the quality and safety of the clinical acts it performs, the innovation of its management processes, the excellence and competitiveness of its services, the sustainability and value creation of its activity, as well as the capacity to attract new skills and new users, namely within the scope of an integrated process of contracting services with the outside and internationalisation. Within the scope of the Academic Centre of Medicine of Lisbon, joint care, training and teaching and research projects will be developed at national and international level. This integrated vision aims at the sustained growth and development of the CHLN, assuming this institution as an example in the provision of health care, focused on change and differentiation, reinforcing its mark of reference in the national health system.
