Mission: Our mission is to carry out frontier scientific research on biodiversity, in the context of past, present and future environmental changes; to train new generations of scientists; and to contribute to the conservation and sustainable management of natural heritage for the social, economic and cultural development of Chile.
Vision: In the IEB we want to develop in three main areas, being the generation of scientific knowledge the central axis of our present and future work. Science area: we aspire to be a world class institute in frontier scientific research and its application for the sustainable development of Chile. This also implies being a training center for advanced training of undergraduate and graduate students and mentoring of young researchers. Technology transfer and development: we want to establish a close link with the public and private sector in the country, playing a collaborative role with Chilean public services in the solution of environmental problems, and being a source of scientific information to enhance the sustainability of Chilean industry based on natural resources. Science Communication Scope: We seek to communicate the scientific knowledge produced by IEB researchers to a wide range of non-scientific audiences, understanding their different needs and promoting their appreciation for science and the importance of protecting biodiversity.
