Mission: A.O.U.P. is a Hospital Company integrated with the University of Pisa (hereinafter, University). The mission of the Company is to contribute to guaranteeing the highest possible levels of health: ensuring the centrality of the patient and guaranteeing attention to the service as an added value of the technical-professional component and an integral and substantial part of the service itself; guaranteeing patients and their families listening, information and comfort while respecting their feelings; enhancing and integrating skills, developing technical-professional, organizational and managerial knowledge and skills; encouraging the development of horizontal organization and processes and the enhancement and management for care and clinical pathways. The A.O.U.P. intends to favour the achievement of these objectives by adopting a management oriented on patient flows, and consequently organizing the activities on the basis of the hospital model for intensity of care and on this to develop and favour the lines of research and didactics. The A.O.U.P. assumes the configuration of a structural element both of the NHS, in particular of the health system of the Region of Tuscany, and of the university system, of which it shares the teaching and research purposes. A.O.U.P. is characterized by the unitary and coordinated performance of the assistance functions and, although strictly integrated, of the teaching and research functions. In particular, A.O.U.P. ensures: - hospitalization assistance activities, specialized outpatient services and emergency-urgency activities; - didactic activities, as far as they are integrated with the assistance activities linked to the regional system, through the consultation with the university with reference to the degree courses of the health professions, the master's degree courses and the courses of the Specialization Schools provided by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery; - a functional endowment of beds adequate with respect to the teaching and research needs of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, and the use of all other resources present (technological and professional), according to plans shared with the Health Department in order to ensure an optimal development of single-cycle courses of study and courses of study of the health professions, as well as the training of postgraduates. In the event that no offices are available at A.O.U.P., the University, in agreement with A.O.U.P., can identify other locations for training activities, at other regional public structures; in the absence of these, it is also possible to identify offices at accredited private structures; - a strengthening of research activities, in implementation of specific executive protocols between the Region and the University. The initiatives on the subject are essentially aimed at the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, the preparation of a rapid application transfer of experimental acquisitions, the coordination of activities for the review and evaluation of clinical and care practice. The A.O.U.P. also guarantees, as CME provider, training through the development of a training offer for its own staff and for the university staff carrying out care or support activities, and also for other subjects of the health service, as well as the development, experimentation and consolidation of new training models. A.O.U.P. incorporates among the founding values of its corporate culture, its organizational structure, its operating procedures, health promotion, intended as a process aimed at empowering people to increase control over their health and improve it: it adheres to the network of Health Promotion Hospitals and makes its values, concepts and standards its own: within the limits of its institutional competencies and the mandates assigned to each Regional Service Company, it collaborates in all common initiatives for health promotion and culture.
