Mission: Our mission statement is to lead by being student-centered in medical education, patient-centered in health service delivery, application-centered in biomedical and clinical research, public interest-centered in community service, and faculty and staff-centered in professional development at SUMC.
Vision: With the goal of becoming a leading medical college in China with superb international standing, SUMC exists to lead by being student-centered in medical education, patient-centered in health service delivery, application-centered in biomedical and clinic research, public interest-centered in community services and faculty and staff-centered for sustainable development of SUMC. Over the past few years we have made substantial progress in defining and implementing adequate development strategies and policies in line with international standards. In the coming years, we will continue to implement measures aimed at further administrative reform, curriculum reform, improvement of research quality and productivity, enhancing cross-disciplinary collaboration, upgrading our patient care service, and retaining top-notch staff throughout the college. In the meantime, we continue to deeply cherish the characteristic features of our College and the core values that have made us what we are today: an open and socially engaged institution of higher learning and practice. Thanks to the unique symbiosis between our College and the Li Ka Shing Foundation, we will continue dedicating ourselves to providing our students with the best environment for gaining knowledge and practical experience, whilst serving the community at large. Switching into high gear, our College is now settling into fast-track development. We are highly motivated and fully dedicated to achieving the set goals, and building a first-rate medical institution that meets the demands of challenging 21st century science.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
