Mission: The driving force behind the 21st century is the development of knowledge-intensive societies. This awareness has led to the creation of new institutes of higher learning in India in the past few years. Indian Institute of Technology Indore, established in 2009, is part of this mega-project that envisages India as a Global Technology Leader. Continuing with the tradition of the older IITs, IIT Indore aims to play an active role in this task of propelling India on her growth-trajectory by focusing on education, research and development. IIT Indore visualizes this mission within the context of larger humanistic concerns.
Vision: - Academics: To inculcate and promote an academic community with independence of thought and free expression of research ideas; To provide a balance of continuously updated knowledge with extensive hands on training on sophisticated facilities; To engage with industry and external partners for curricula design; Adjunct faculty and distinguished international visiting faculty to form important components of institute is teaching and research profile. - Research and development: While cutting edge research is a basic mission for all areas, Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering is identified a thrust area programme; Through interdisciplinary research and development, promotion of an experiment programme in astronomy for in house design and construction of a major observing facility is identified as another thrust area; To encourage candidates from industry and defence services for PhD programme at IIT Indore. - Innovation and entrepreneurship: “Concept to Product” to be facilitated with heavy engagement with industry partners; Promote undergraduate research, start –ups and incubators within the campus; To establish and innovation centre and science park.

The following data gives a quick reading on the scientific performance in the last years. The research ranking refers to the volume, impact and quality of the institution's research output. The innovation ranking is calculated on the number of patent applications of the institution and the citations that its research output receives from patents. Finally, the societal ranking is based on the number of pages of the institution's website and the number of backlinks and mentions from social networks.
The result of the evaluation of the institution can be compared to obtain a view of the country, the region to which it belongs and the institutions of the world, placing it in their respective positions.
We have divided the scientific output of the institution into 19 large areas of knowledge and the following table shows only the ranks in different territorial domains achieved by the institution in each of the areas. For an institution to have a presence in an area, it is necessary that it exceed in the last year a minimum output threshold equivalent to twice the percentage that this area represents in the world. If you need scientific indicators on these areas visit Scopus and/or SciVal.
