Mission: The University shall be responsible for higher education at all levels of culture, artistic education, qualification for the exercise of scientific professions and the exercise of other functions assigned to it by law. It is also responsible, through all its organs, in their respective fields of competence, for the enhancement, dissemination and defence of culture; for the promotion and protection of scientific research and artistic activities and for contributing to the study of problems of general interest and promoting public understanding thereof; for the defence of moral values and the principles of justice, freedom, social welfare, the rights of the human person and the democratic-republican form of government.

Vision: To be an institution of excellence, a reference in research, with national leadership and regional recognition in tertiary and higher education, promoting its principles of autonomy and democracy. To contribute with excellence, relevance and ethical values to the sustainable development of the country, in all its dimensions through the integration of education with research, innovation and extension and relations with the environment. To be an organization oriented towards continuous improvement in all its activities in order to achieve increasingly higher levels of performance in teaching, research, extension and relationship with the environment and management.
